The San Jose Earthquakes (16-6-5, 53 pts.) take the week off from MLS play, but will host San Luis FC (Mexico) in an international exhibition on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the first ever meeting between the Quakes and the Liga MX side.

San Luis FC Scouting Report
San Luis FC fell 2-0 to Leon in their last match in the Liga MX on Sept. 1. Through seven weeks of league play, Los Reales are 0-5-2. However, in Copa MX play, San Luis has had much better success. They are 3-1-1 and in second place just one point behind Necaxa in Group 4. Alex Aguinaga is currently serving as the team’s head coach. Aguinaga played with former Earthquakes player and head coach Dominic Kinnear at Necaxa in 1995.

Quakes in International Exhibitions
The San Jose Earthquakes have a 5-8-7 all-time record in international exhibitions, following their 2-2 tie against Swansea City AFC on July 31, 2012. The Quakes have played 10 games against Mexican competition, eight exhibition games and two CONCACAF Champions Cup matches. The Quakes have played UNAM Pumas (twice), Atlas, Chivas de Guadalajara (twice), Monarcas Morelia, Toluca and Club America in exhibitions. In 2002, the Quakes fell 3-1 on aggregate in a two-leg quarterfinal series in the Champions Cup to Pachuca CF. They are 1-6-3 in those 10 matches.

Earthquakes to Attempt to Break Guinness World Record for Largest Groundbreaking Ceremony

Earthquakes Club President Dave Kaval announced the club will break ground on their new stadium on Sunday, Oct. 21 and will try to break a Guinness World Record for the largest groundbreaking ceremony in the process. Fans are invited to the landmark occasion and can RSVP by visiting Anyone planning to attend can park for free starting at 10:30 a.m. at the new stadium site on the corner of Coleman Ave. and Newhall Ave. Check-in for diggers begins at 11:30 a.m. To ensure participation, fans should arrive before noon. In order to break the Guinness World Record, the club needs 4,533 participants to dig for two minutes.

One Win From Playoffs
The San Jose Earthquakes are one win from clinching a spot in the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs. A Quakes win or a loss by Chivas USA would put San Jose into the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

Unbeaten Streak Continues at Buck Shaw
The Earthquakes extended their Buck Shaw Stadium unbeaten streak to 15 games after Sunday’s 4-0 win over Chivas USA. The Quakes last loss at Buck Shaw Stadium came against the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 13, 2011. The Quakes all-time home unbeaten streak is 18 games, set from Sept. 25, 2004-Oct. 8, 2005 at Spartan Stadium. The Earthquakes are 9-0-3 at Buck Shaw this season and 10-1-3 at home including matches played at AT&T Park and Stanford Stadium.

Corrales Continues Hot Play
One week after notching two assists in a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 25, Ramiro Corrales continued his stellar play with two goals against Chivas USA on Saturday night. The goals were the first of the season for Corrales and moved him into sole possession of ninth place in team history with 16 goals. It was the first two-goal game of his career. At 35 years old, Corrales is second on the team with eight assists this season, one off his career best nine in 2002. He is now tied for fourth in club history in assists with 31. He is also the all-time leader in games played (233), games started (214) and minutes played (19,020).

Quakes Set Single Season Goals Record
The San Jose Earthquakes exploded for four more goals against Chivas USA on Sunday night to snap the club record for goals scored in a single season. The Quakes have now scored 56 goals in 2012, breaking the record of 55, set in 1997 in a 32-game season.

More Goals
The Quakes have scored 56 goals in 27 games for a 2.07 per game average. They are aiming to become the first team to score two goals per game since the Miami Fusion scored 57 goals in 26 games and the LA Galaxy scored 52 times in 26 games in 2001. Only 10 teams have averaged two or more goals per game for an entire season.

Even More Goals
With four more goals on Sunday night against Chivas USA, San Jose has now scored 36 goals at home this season, placing them first in MLS in goals scored at home. They are five ahead of the Montreal Impact, who have netted 31 goals at home this year.

Double Digit Scorers
Chris Wondolowski (18) and Alan Gordon (11) are the first Earthquakes duo to score double-digit goals in the same season since Ronald Cerritos (12), Lawrence Lozzano (10) and Jeff Baicher (10) in 1997. San Jose has a chance to match or surpass the 1997 trio if Steven Lenhart (8) can tally twice more and Simon Dawkins (7) can score three times more before season’s end.

Top of the League
Through 27 games, the Earthquakes are No. 1 in MLS with 55 goals scored and 58 assists. With 33 goals conceded, the Quakes are also No. 1 in the league with a +23 goal differential. Additionally, San Jose leads the league with 35 second-half goals and a +21 goal differential in the second half. Following Sunday’s 4-0 win over Chivas USA, San Jose also leads the league with nine 3-goal games in 2012.

Iron Man Morrow’s Streak Snapped
Quakes all-star defender Justin Morrow missed his first match of 2012 on Sunday against Chivas USA. He had played every minute of San Jose’s first 26 games this season, but he had the night off against Chivas USA.

All-Time Wins/Points Records
The San Jose Earthquakes won their 16th game of the season and reached 53 points on Sunday against Chivas USA. The team is now three wins away from tying the club’s all-time mark for wins in a season, set in 1999. Of the team’s 19 wins in 1999, 10 came via the shootout with only nine in regulation. The team set the record for points in a season with 64 in 2005 after recording an 18-4-10 record.

Quakes First in Western Conference, Supporters’ Shield Standings
The Earthquakes (16-6-5, 53 pts.) remain atop the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings following the club’s 4-0 win against Chivas USA. San Jose holds a three-point advantage over Sporting Kansas City (15-7-5, 50 pts.) in the Supporters’ Shield race. Meanwhile, the Earthquakes are seven points ahead of Real Salt Lake (14-10-4, 46 pts.) in the Western Conference table.

Wondo Doubles Career High
Chris Wondolowski added another assist to his season total with a pass to Simon Dawkins for the Quakes second goal on Sunday against Chivas USA. He now has six for the season, doubling his previous career high of three assists in a season.

Wondolowski Approaching MLS Single Season Record for Game-Winning Goals
Chris Wondolowski is one game-winning goal away from tying an MLS record that he shares with former LA Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz. Wondolowski (2010) and Ruiz (2002) have each recorded nine game-winning goals in a single season. San Jose’s striker has scored the game winner in eight of San Jose’s 15 victories to date.

Wondolowski Closing in on Club Scoring Mark
Chris Wondolowski is six goals away from matching Ronald Cerritos’ club record for career goals scored. Cerritos scored 61 goals in 148 games over six seasons in San Jose. Meanwhile, Wondolowski has 55 goals in 99 games over five seasons for the Earthquakes. Additionally, Wondolowski’s goal against Montreal on Aug. 18 tied his club record for tallies in a single season with 18.

Late Goals in Bunches
San Jose continued scoring late in games against Chivas USA, scoring in the 71st minute and 81st minute on Sunday night. The Quakes pace the league in goals over the final 30 minutes with 33. That total is seven more than the next-best team, the LA Galaxy. The Quakes also lead MLS comfortably with an incredible 17 strikes over the final 15 minutes of contests, establishing a new club record. The Houston Dynamo are next on the list with 14. San Jose has also scored an MLS record seven second half stoppage-time goals.

New Stadium Club Seats Sold Out
The Earthquakes announced on Saturday that club seats at the new stadium are sold out. With luxury suites and club seats sold out, general seating in the new stadium will go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 23. Current season tickets holders will have first priority to purchase tickets for the new stadium. The priority order will be set based on tenure as a season ticket holder. Season ticket holders will receive more information in the coming week regarding their specific account. Child, Mandaric to be Inducted to Earthquakes Hall of Fame
The Earthquakes announced last week that former star forward Paul Child and the team’s original owner Milan Mandaric have been named to the Earthquakes Hall of Fame. The two former members of the North American Soccer League (NASL) Earthquakes will be inducted to the club’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony during halftime of San Jose’s match on Sept. 29 against FC Dallas. To celebrate the occasion, 5,000 fans will receive a commemorative pin courtesy of XFINITY.

MLS Cup Playoff Tickets Now on Sale
Earthquakes 2012 MLS Cup Playoff tickets are now on sale at through the March to the Cup Mini-Plan. The mini-plan includes a ticket to three of San Jose’s remaining regular season home games â€" including the Quakes’ international friendly against San Luis FC on Thursday, Sept. 6 â€" and the club’s first MLS Cup Playoff home game since 2010. Fifth Annual Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation Banquet Set for Oct. 12
The Fifth Annual Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation Awards Banquet is slated for Friday, Oct. 12 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif. featuring former Earthquakes defender Jimmy Conrad as the keynote speaker. Wells Fargo Goals for Education
Wells Fargo has again pledged to donate $250 for each goal the Earthquakes score in 2012 through the Goals for Education program. With 55 goals through 27 games, the donated total for this season already stands at $13,750. Thanks to 40 goals in 2011, the partnership raised $10,000 for local youth soccer and athletic development programs a year ago.
