San Jose SaberCats capsule for Saturday's game vs. Chicago - San Jose Mercury News

SaberCats update: At 7-3, San Jose is tied with three other teams for the Arena Football League's best record, including division rival Arizona, which it has beaten twice. ... The SaberCats are 4-0 at home this season and 10-3 at HP Pavilion, dating to last year. ... QB Mark Grieb, who turned 38 on Wednesday, ranks third in the league in passing average (305.6 yards per game) and fifth in touchdown passes (60). ... WR Ben Nelson, who is injured, is the only SaberCat with nearly 1,000 receiving yards, but the team has three -- Samora Goodson, James Roe and Hank Edwards -- with at least 500. ... The SaberCats are still the AFL's sack leaders despite being held without one last week. The same goes for DL Joe Sykes, the league's individual leader with 10 sacks. Sykes is two away from the franchise record and 5½ from the league mark. ... K Nich Pertuit's extra-point streak is at 36. The franchise mark for consecutive PATs is 59, set by A.J. Haglund in 2008. ... The Cats have been penalized just 38.5 yards per game, second-fewest in the league.

Rush update: Chicago (6-3) is a half-game back in the AFL's Central Division. ... QB Russ Michna is third in the league in pass efficiency (122.9) and completion percentage (67.2). He has thrown just 45 TD passes -- the fewest among the league's top 10 QBs -- but also has only seven

interceptions. ... WR Reggie Gray ranks 10th in the league in receiving yards with 100.9 per game. He also has 23 TDs. ... DL Xavier Brown has six sacks in seven games.

SaberCats injuries: Nelson, FB Tommy Taggart, OL Isaac Leatiota, WR Taurus Johnson and DBs Tanner Varner, Mervin Brookins and Mike Grant are out.

Rush injuries: WR/DB Brandon Brinkley, a former SaberCat, is out. So are DB Vic Hall, who ranks third in the league in tackles with 63½, FB/LB Russell Monk and OL/DLs Derek Walker and Montavious Stanley.
