SAN JOSE, Calif. â" The San Jose Earthquakes kick off a season-long four-game road stretch at bitter in-state rivals LA Galaxy this Wednesday, May 23, in the first California Clasico of 2012. Kickoff at The Home Depot Center in Carson is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will air live locally on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
The Earthquakes (7-2-3, 24 pts.) are currently in second-place in the MLS Western Conference standings, 13 points ahead of the defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy (3-6-2, 11 pts.), who occupy the cellar following a winless five-game run of 0-3-2. The Quakes trail only Real Salt Lake (8-3-2, 26 pts.) by two points, with one game in hand. Seattle Sounders FC (7-2-2, 23 pts.) are right behind in third-place with one fewer game played than San Jose.
San Jose is coming off of back-to-back 1-1 home draws courtesy of dramatic late equalizers by Alan Gordon, who will be facing his former club on Wednesday night. Gordon played parts of seven seasons for the Galaxy from his rookie year in 2004 to 2010, scoring 16 times in 99 appearances.
The Quakes are 3-1-1 in road matches this season, and have already matched their total number of road victories from a year ago. They are third in MLS with 23 goals scored, second with 26 assists and have the best goal differential in the league at +10.
San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski, the Budweiser Golden Boot race leader with 11 goals, and Galaxy stars Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane will all miss Wednesdayâs clash due to international duty.
